Swimming pools

Swimming pools are typical examples of buildings with higher temperature and relative moisture requirements.

Especially in those swimming pool buildings where thermal insulation is installed form within, designers are having a hard time with the ever present high humidity, as thermal insulations with higher moisture uptake must be sealed off with vapour barriers if they are to retain their insulating properties. In real life, this is not an easy task. While most thermal insulations loose their insulation properties with moisture uptake, the closed cell structured XPS thermal insulation absorbs only minimal amounts of moisture and retains its insulation capacity even during long term exposure to moisture.

The FIBRANxps ETICS thermal insulation boards are finished with plaster or cladded. In all assemblies that are thermally insulated from within – but especially in concrete construction! – moisture absorbency of the assembly must be checked very carefully. If the outer surfaces of exterior walls in contact with cold air are not thermally insulated, thermal insulation must be glued to their interior surfaces not only  with lines of glue, but the adhesive must cover the whole surface of the panel.

To prevent heat or cold losses, swimming pools, water containers and other below grade storage are cladded with FIBRANxps thermal insulation. Its quality class will depend on the demands of the specific application. Usually, walls are insulated with thermal insulation panels of 300kPa compressive strength. The necessary compressive strength of the thermal insulation below the foundation slab must be calculated by structural engineers.
